Surrealism Essay
In our Modern day surrealism art has become a popular art form that was created around a hundred years ago. The surrealist movement was founded in Paris in the year of 1924 by a small group of writers and artists who ventured in making a work of art appeal to one’s own imagination. The founders wanted to come up with a contradiction to realism and things that occur in our everyday lives. The creators also wanted to go outside the idea of realism and romanticism to create a defined abstract art. The well known influences of surrealism are the great Salvador Dali and Man Ray. These two outstanding artists and thinkers helped to encourage such an extreme art throughout the 20th century.
Since Salvador Dali was an inspirational artist I will tell you a short history about his surrealist art. Salvador Dali had a wide range of artwork from pieces that were a bit strange to mater arts that were so abstract that they were absurd. He was gifted with such strong imagination to create works of art that turned into well known master pieces. One of his well known works was called Still Life moving Fast. In this painting he took life’s still objects and morphed them to move in a dream like imaginative way. In 1931, Dali created a work of art that was based on his child hood called The Persistence of Memory. In this creation he painted a mountain, named Catalonia that was a favorite place he liked to go as a child and had melted clocks on trees to show the passing of time he spent there. It was very surreal the way he morphed objects in his painting. All these contributions he made to surrealism just simply showcased his extreme imagination.
Overall I learned that surrealism is an abstract art form that goes against reality and what people expect, like a contradiction. Surrealism art can be just about anything you want it to be and that is the beauty of imagination. Not only can you paint it but people use this technique in photography. The beauty of surrealism is the fact that you as an artist get to think outside the box and put together a bunch of abstract objects together to make a piece of art look awe inspiring. This can all be achieved because of artists like Salvador Dali.
