Allegory
The definition of allegory is the representation of a spiritual or abstract meaning through concrete or material forms. In other words allegory is a symbolical narrative. Usually allegory is found in literature and English pieces of work. Allegory creates a message by using symbolic figures or actions. Also, you can think of allegory as an extended metaphor. An extended metaphor is where you compare two things to symbolize something. In some cases allegory uses objects not humans to tell an overall moral or story.
One example of allegory I found was the grim reaper. This image is a symbolic icon of death. Allegory can be anything really as long as it is an array of something that is used to create a deeper meaning that makes sense. Writers can also create allegory through poems by writing about actions that portray love or jealousy. These are just examples. After doing some research I have found that allegories are like fables, parables, and apologues. The general idea is that allegory is symbolic in some way, shape, or form.
Allegory can be used in art and photography to portray symbolic meanings such as childhood memories, aging, wealth, pass times, love, family, and etc. Many artists can take pictures of different objects and create a collage to show representation of something with greater meaning. Artists or painters can do the same. In photography it is interesting to do because it challenges you to use objects not humans to tell a story or overall moral.
